Department Overview

The Department of Evolution and Ecology at UC Davis brings together leading scientists investigating the processes that generate and sustain biodiversity across the tree of life. Research spans genes and genomes to populations, species, communities and ecosystems, integrating laboratory, field and computational approaches to understand evolution, ecology, behavior, conservation and environmental change. These discoveries advance fundamental knowledge while informing conservation, agriculture, public health and ecosystem management.

The department offers an undergraduate major in Evolution, Ecology and Biodiversity, and Marine and Coastal Science, and supports interdisciplinary graduate training through the Graduate Group in Ecology and the Population Biology Graduate Group. Its faculty are also involved with the Center for Population Biology, which fosters collaboration and professional development among faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.
