Message from the Director

The Center for Population Biology is dedicated to understanding the origins and maintenance of biodiversity through research in ecology and evolutionary biology.  This challenge has taken on a new sense of urgency given the threats to this diversity from human activities such as habitat alteration, climate change, and overharvesting of wild populations.  Founded in 1989, the Center currently includes 46 faculty, 20 postdoctoral scientists, and 58 graduate researchers from 9 departments and 3 colleges at UC Davis.  Their work ranges from genetics and genomics to phylogenetics to theoretical and experimental ecology.   More information about center members and their work can be found here: : CPB People.

The goals of the Center are to foster collaborations among labs and to provide support for innovative research by graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.  To do this we host a variety of events including workshops, seminars and other activities in support of our mission.

Please see our recent news, information on past and upcoming workshops, and opportunities for graduate student funding. We hope you will take an active part in CPB research and social life.
